The first GT500 hit the streets hard in 1967 and ran strong until 1970. As aficionados know, the Shelby Mustang is a high performance variant of the Ford Mustang which was built by Shelby American, a partnership between Caroll Shelby & Ford Motor Company, from 1965 through 1970. The GTs previously bore a Cobra tag which changed in 1969 when they were once again marketed simply as Shelby GT 350 and Shelby GT 500. The GT 350 and GT 500 for the 1969 model year received an extensive face lift, the body alone increasing in length by 4 inches (100 mm).The GT 350 was now equipped with a 351 cubic-inch V8. Just 286 models with 1970 serial numbers were created with no mechanical changes from the previous model.
